Seed Sowing:

Sow seeds indoors 5 to 7 weeks before planting outdoors.  Cover seeds lightly, for best results prechill trays with seeds for 30 days, you can place them outside or in a refrigerator.  Keep damp for the 30 days. After chilling move to a warm locating until seedlings emerge.  Can direct sow when soil can be worked in early spring or fall.  Press seeds lightly into the soil.  

Cut Flower:

For cut flowers, harvest when blooms are just beginning to open.  Rudbeckia are known to make the water dark and murky, use a few drops of bleach in water to help combat this.  Vase life of 7 to 1- days.
